Yeah, I've thought about going that route too. Might be a better choice.

I just wanted to send a quick thank you out to all the folks who took the time to respond to my question. I really appreciate it.

Thanks again,

BTW, here's yet another glowing report on the MTS 1200. So far, I haven't seen the first seriously negative word about these bikes! http://www.wheels.ca/reviews/article/785023

Only negativity I can say is...why is there no cruise control given all the trick electronics? I guess we'll have to do with a Throttlemeister in lieu.

Hafta agree with ya on that one. Cruise, at least on the touring version would have been great. I wonder if it has a throttle friction knob or something like that?

After seeing these pictures, I really don't care about the touring model, I'd rather get the aftermarket bags any way since a previous review said that they're built like crap and the lids don't even close properly.

I just can't quite see rippin' around on dirt roads on one of these. Seems like if there was any mud at all, it would quickly pack into the engine and radiator and bake on with that stubby little front fender.

I agree that the panniers are butt-ugly and appear to be a little flimsy from that I've seen/read, but they're the only way to have any storage utility when you're on a trip. Plus, to me, these bikes ain't no beauty queens anyway. IMHO, the only bikes that actually look great with panniers are the Harley baggers.

And I just realized that the side stand appears to attach to the engine itself! That can't be true, can it?
